A little history about St. Patrick's Day...
When we think of St. Patrick's Day we focus on wearing green so we don't get pinched by friends or family but it is really about celebrating the death of Saint Patrick of Ireland. The idea of drinking on this day started because the Lenton restriction of not eating or consuming alcohol was lifted just on this day.
Did you know that the Shamrock was used by Saint Patrick to explain the Holy Trinity to the pagan Irish? Wearing green also came about because in the 1640's, the Irish Catholic Confederation used the green harp flag.
Ever wonder how Leprechauns came about? Before Saint Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland, the Irish believed that their kings and queen's originated from god's who took the form of fairies on earth, the taller of these god's were know as Leprechauns. The story of gold being at the end of a rainbow has transformed over the years and the original tales have mostly been forgotten.
