You will always remember the character's of your favorite children's book, some parents go as far as naming their children after their favorite characters! Find out what our favorite character's names really mean and if they will make a suitable name for children today.

Gilbert, Anne, and Walter are character names from Anne Of Green Gables. Walter is a German name meaning "powerful ruler", Anne and Gilbert, both are from the English origin. Anne means "God's grace" and Gilbert means "trusted". All three names have nice meanings and we would say they are suitable for any baby.

Bambi and Faline are characters from Bambi. Although Bambi is a male deer in the books, this name is actually a female Italian name that means "child". Faline is a female doe who eventually becomes Bambi's wife. Faline is a female Irish name that means "in charge". Both names are simple and cute but knowing that Bambi is actually a girls name, we are not sure about naming a child after this character. Faline is thought to be a unique girls name that may just work.

Ramona,  from the Ramona books, is an energetic little girl with endless imagination. This name is a Spanish name that means "wise protector, protecting hands". Ramona has a nice meaning but it is no longer as popular as it was in the year 1960.

Charlie and Willy are both characters from Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. Charlie is an English name that means "strong, manly" and Willy, also being of the English origin, it means "resolute protector".

Harry from the Harry Potter series, this name is of the English origin and it means "army man". Harry is not a very popular name in the United States but if you are in England it may be on your top list of choices.

George from the books Curious George, this little monkey has an English name that means "farmer".

Alice, from Alice In Wonderland, is a little girl who follows a rabbit into a rabbit hole and found herself in a land of imagination. Alice means "of nobility, noble one" and is of the English origin.

Harold. from Harold and The Purple Crayon, he is a four-year-old boy who uses his imagination and a purple crayon to create his own world. This name is English and it means "army commander".

Max is from Where The Wild Things Are. He is misunderstood at school and home so he escapes to the land of the Wild Things. The scary creatures allow Max to be their leader and he promises to create a kingdom where they will all be happy. His name is a Gaelic name and it actually means "son of a wise ruler". This name fits his character well.

Wilber and Charlotte. from Charlotte's Webb, are some of our favorite characters. Wilbur is an Enlgish name that means "from the strong fortress", he is a sweet little pig who becomes a star. Charlotte is a spider who helps Wilbur become a respected pig by writing messages about him in her web. Her name is an English name that means "petite, feminine". Both names have great meanings and will be perfect for a baby today.
